Q&A: Does anyone else think that the stimulus package should be given to the people, not through “programs”?

Question by Loving Mommy: Does anyone else think that the stimulus package should be given to the people, not through “programs”?
I just read an article that said 1 trillion dollars equals out to $ 12,000 per family of four. I feel like that could get a lot of people out of a lot of debt. Some would pay off credit cards (bailing them out), some would buy new cars (bailing out the auto industry- or proving who still “has it”), some would use it as a down payment on a home, or pay towards their mortgage for which they may have fallen behind (mortgage companies and homeowners bailout), and some could even use it to pay off other bills in order to qualify to refinance their home. Isn’t it a win-win situation? I don’t understand why this is not what the government is proposing, and I am looking for some intelligent opinions to make me understand. Thanks!

  1. The programs are controlled by the government and that way the government can tell who gets what, most of it will stay in their pockets, don’t let anyone tell you that the government is going to GIVE you anything

  2. I actually think we can recover without a huge stimulus package. All we really need to do is to change some policies and help people stay in their homes.

Yes I would do the infrastructure projects. But other than that. solving illegal immigration, stopping outsourcing of jobs, curbing executive pay, regulating wall street and changing laws to force banks to negotiate with people in foreclosure and give them some better terms would go a very very long way.

  3. YES but cutting tax, not by tax credit to illegals.
Distributing MY money is like the Castro did in Cuba, or Stalin in Russia.

  4. No stimulus package. Let the market take care of itself. If a company can’t survive, it deserves to fail…let the stronger get stronger.

If you have too much credit card debt, that’s YOUR fault. I shouldn’t have to bail you out. Use that $ 12 grand for a house you can’t afford to begin with? Why should I have to bail you out when you can’t make the payments later on? If you can’t live within your means, why the hell should I pay your bills for you?

People get themselves in these messes. I am NOT responsible for their irresponsibility.

  5. For one thing, the government is upset you didn’t spend the last stimlous check squandering your money on things you don’t need, like they do. No, instead most Americans paid down dept, or saved it, which didn’t sit well with Washington.

Also you do realize it’s not government money, it’s taxpayer money. How about they just stop stealing it from us in the first place?
